Statement From SEC Chairman Christopher Cox FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE 2008-210
Washington, D.C., Sept. 18, 2008 — Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman Christopher Cox today made the following statement:
"While I have great respect for Senator McCain, we have sometimes disagreed, and this is one such occasion. The SEC has made plain that we have zero tolerance for naked short selling. In this market crisis, the men and women of the SEC have responded valiantly as they always do—with the utmost dedication and professionalism. Addressing the extraordinary challenges facing our markets, the independent and bipartisan SEC has taken the following decisive actions:
funny how he had to ban it (NS) and then rescind the ban tho huh?
if Mccain can actually win by running against the whole congress and the white house? i guess i'll be OK with it, but i just don't feel as tho he's been aggressive enough in the last 8 years...
it's better than having one party (whichever one) run it all...

It turns out that there is a Supreme court ruling from back in the 30s saying the president can't fire him or any other sitting member of that group (Roosevelt tried to pack it).
That is something that a presidential candidate should learn before making such an announcement.
Also, I worry about McCain's mental processes, or at least his hearing, after I saw on TV today a Spanish radio station interviewer ask him about the prime minister of Spain and McCain responded as to how he relates and would in the future as president to Latin American leaders and any from the area. (Spain is in Latin America???)
It is a bit worse than only confusing Sunni and Shiite Moslems and looks to be serious. Senility? Alzheimers? Simple ignorance? Does the man have a drinking problem? Whatever, it is a scary thought that someone that has such a difficulty might become our president.
(To tell the truth, I met McCain years ago and the problem was there and obvious then. It was also obvious that it was not due to a drinking problem. Frankly, over the years I have been amazed that a guy that wasn't able to handle even the relatively mild intricacies of polite conversation could recover and become a Senator. Maybe I was being impressed when I shouldn't have been.)

Apparently, Bush could appoint someone else as chair, but Cox would remain a commissioner...so I suppose that means Bush would have to appoint one of the other commissioners as the chair.
Practically speaking, if a U.S. president asks for your resignation, well, you wouldn't just blow it off...
Still, McCain looks foolish (apparently quite foolish within certain quarters at the SEC) by not being accurate.

He'll probably be dead within the first three years of the term due to health reasons IMO, then Palin will cook Hillary's goose by becoming the first female Pres., un-officially elected that is, until the next term if all goes well for her...
Ya missed the point. Once Cox's appointment was confirmed, no president, not even the "cheer leader supreme", has the authority to get rid of him.

Cox `Asleep at Switch' as Paulson, Bernanke Encroach (Update2)
By Jesse Westbrook and Robert Schmidt
Christopher Dodd, a Connecticut Democrat, and Reed ordered a probe by the Government Accountability Office this year after the SEC disclosed that sanctions against companies and individuals accused of violating its rules fell 51 percent, to $1.6 billion, for the fiscal year ended in September 2007.
Some of Cox's own enforcement attorneys say the chairman has undermined them by delaying votes on settlements they've reached with accused corporate miscreants and by publicly rebuking them in a case where they subpoenaed journalists.
