I know Will would love this website...

First, he's back. Then he wants a trade. Then he don't but he really does. Or does he?

I think he should just retire and leave his career record intact.. he had a amazing year in 2007.. and i think it would be great if he was remembered as a GB Packer only,..

Are you then saying that athletes don't have the rights the rest of us do.....or shouldn't?

Seems to me that if a worker still has the ability to do a good and satisfactory job, and is below some legislated required retirement age, it is his decision that he is or is not able to work, assuming, of course, that there is work to be done.

~He wants the ring man!~
~He wants the mojo back!~

I dunno. He's a great quarterback but he let the GB management pigeon-hole him. Take a lesson here folks, this is what can happen if you are too loyal.

GB management had been pushing him about retirement for a couple of years. They saw what he saw, that Brett was a great player who could get them there, but GB wasn't likely gonna bring it home with Brett at the helm.

Now if they activate him he will sit on the bench behind a rookie (tearing the team and their fans apart with his mere presence).

If they trade him he will go to a team that is no threat to GB (and even less likely to get him his ring).

Or he can either pick up a clipboard (not his style) or do like the rest of us and watch from the seats.

Brett should'a asked for a trade in '98/'99 when Holmgren left. Now he's got nothing left but bad choices. Even saying last spring that he's gonna play in '08 woulda been a bad choice given management's obvious desire to rebuild the Pack front to back.

He already has a Super Bowl ring, numerous NFL records, and more than you can shake a stick at. Gotta be just for the love of the game now.

Report: Packers consider sending Favre to division rival

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ESPN.com news services

The Green Bay Packers, unable so far to trade Brett Favre and facing his arrival at training camp, are reportedly considering taking a step they desperately wanted to avoid: dealing him to a division rival.

The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, citing a source close to the situation, on Wednesday reported the Packers were considering seeking a deal with one of their rivals, most likely the Minnesota Vikings or Chicago Bears, if all else fails.

That follows reports that the Packers on Wednesday offered Favre a substantial sum of money -- as much as $20 million over several years -- to stay retired.

Favre, meanwhile, was preparing to board a chartered flight from Mississippi to Green Bay and was waiting to speak with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell on Thursday before deciding whether to make the flight, ESPN's Ed Werder reported.

According to two sources, a chartered plane was reserved to bring Favre from Hattiesburg, Miss., to Green Bay on Thursday night, if necessary. The flight was scheduled to depart Hattiesburg at 6:56 p.m CT and land in Green Bay at 8:51 p.m. CT.

But Favre had apparently not informed Packers management whether he intends to report to training camp, and a source close to the discussions indicated the trip could still be aborted if there is some kind of breakthrough in the negotiations, Werder reported. "There is still a lot of time left in the day,'' the source said.

While Favre was preparing to make the roughly 1,000-mile trip north to Green Bay, the Packers were reportedly considering a possibility they had previously deemed unthinkable: Brett Favre wearing the uniform of an NFC North rival.

On Monday, Packers general manager Ted Thompson said the Packers would not trade Favre within the NFC North. Favre, who has asked the NFL to be reinstated, is reportedly interested in playing for the Vikings, who play the Packers to open their season on "Monday Night Football" on Sept. 8.

The Packers are committed to Aaron Rodgers as their quarterback of the future and are not considering Favre, who tearfully retired March 6, returning to Green Bay as the starter.

An NFL source said he understood from the Packers that trading within the NFC North would be a last resort, according to the report. And the Packers are still trying to convince Favre to consider trade possibilities with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New York Jets.

But while the Packers continue to try to buy themselves more time to deal, Favre has yet to talk to either team.

Team president Mark Murphy traveled to Hattiesburg to meet with Favre and his agent James "Bus" Cook on Wednesday, and multiple media outlets later reported that the team offered the quarterback substantial money to stay retired.

WTMJ television in Milwaukee reported that the team offered Favre in the neighborhood of $20 million over several years to stay retired. The Green Bay Press-Gazette reported on its Web site that the team offered Favre "a substantial salary" to stay away. Both reports cited sources close to Favre. But signs still point to the quarterback reporting to Packers camp.

According to a source close to Favre, the Packers have told him they might limit him to individual drills if he shows up at training camp, the Press-Gazette reported.

Murphy left the meeting in the early evening and had no comment for reporters but issued a statement Wednesday night.

"I was in Hattiesburg today and had a nice visit with Brett Favre," the statement read. "We discussed a number of topics not related to football, including Brett's long-term relationship with the Packers. I consider our conversation to be confidential and am going to be respectful of Brett and his family and keep the details private. "[General manager] Ted [Thompson] and [coach] Mike [McCarthy] are going to continue to work on the football side of this issue. They have my full support."

After the meeting, Cook was asked by the media if Favre could be back in Green Bay by Friday and he said that was a good possibility.

"He would love to go back in Green Bay," Cook said, in comments broadcast by ESPNEWS. "I mean, that's why he started working out. But right now, it looks like he'll be the quarterback at Oak Grove High School." Favre worked out with the school's football team on Wednesday before the meeting.

A league source told ESPN's Chris Mortensen on Wednesday night that NFL commissioner Roger Goodell hopes to speak with Favre on Thursday before he decides to reinstate him.

Mortensen reported earlier Wednesday that Goodell was unlikely to rule on Favre's request for reinstatement Wednesday in order to give the sides more time to work out an agreement on the quarterback's future.

"The commissioner is taking no action today," the NFL said in a statement Wednesday. "He wants to give both the Packers and Brett an appropriate amount of time to make decisions, including decisions impacting the team's roster and salary cap. When Brett is reinstated by the commissioner, we will announce it."

I'd be very surprised if the Pack dealt Brett to us.

I know the rivalry between da Bears and the Pack is just as strong but I think they would go that direction first.

I wouldn't mind if Tarvaris Jackson had another year to develop though. If we had a good passer Berrian, Rice, and maybe Wade (none of them superstars) should be enough of a threat to lighten the load on our young Peterson.

Update from my fantasy football site

Brett Favre, QB GB
News: The Green Bay Press-Gazette reports that Brett Favre is flying to Green Bay Thursday in anticipation of receiving his reinstatement and reporting to Packers training camp. After meeting with Packers CEO Mark Murphy and being offered $20 million over 10 years to stay retired, Brett Favre's future may be settled soon. If push comes to shove for Green Bay, the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports that the Packers would consider dealing their future Hall of Fame QB to an NFC North rival, believed to be either Chicago or Minnesota, but Bears offensive coordinator Ron Turner has nixed any possible deal. Teams like the Jets and Bucs had been in the running for Favre's services, but Favre has nixed going to either team (for now). Favre has applied for reinstatement to the NFL but has yet to receive the green light from Commissioner Roger Goodell, figured to be a formality.

Analysis: Four scenarios seem possible: Favre in Minnesota, Favre in Chicago, Favre in Green Bay and Favre in Hattiesburg, Miss. In Minnesota, Favre would eventually start over Tarvaris Jackson and be a likely low-end No. 1 Fantasy QB considering the offense surrounding him. In Chicago, Favre would be a top-end No. 2 Fantasy QB, a downgrade because of Chicago's suspect receiving corps. Favre would also have to learn the Bears' offense from the ground up whereas he has a working knowledge of the West Coast Offense, which is what the Vikings use. Of course, the offense he knows best is in Green Bay, but he'd be a backup there behind Aaron Rodgers if he stuck with the club. That wouldn't help Fantasy owners much, nor would it help if he were retired at home. We're close to the end of this Favre fiasco; when news breaks, we'll have the latest in this space. If you're in a draft in the immediate future, taking Favre with a middle- to late-round pick is a low-risk, high-reward proposition.

Certainly not. READ!

I asked a question.....about labor law. I did not construct an answer.

And what, prey tell, does the man's prior earned contractual proceeds have to do with it? The supposed wealth or lack of wealth of a worker are NOT in consideration in labor law.

Latest word is he is close to accepting the merchandising deal and staying retired. 25 Mil over ten years is nothing to sneeze at.

You know people complain about oil company execs making too much money, but look at these basketball players getting 100 million dollars to play basketball. You dont even need to be educated to put a ball in a basket...as you can clearly see in the sport.

We got arrogant uneducated NBA players on 90-100 million dollar contracts, and we have intelligent teachers making ends meat trying to reach out to our future for 30K a year. Something is wrong here.

when i was in NE? they were firing tenured profs and spending 50 million for a new football workout room complete with viewing areas so fans could watch the team workout...

tenure is generally considered a lifetime contract...

then, the next year they fired one of the winningest coaches in college football cuz they lost the natl championship game...

i don't think they've cracked the top ten since...

Favre to be reinstated by NFL, report to Packers on Monday
The NFL had delayed the move, hoping the two sides could end their standoff
Favre, who retired in March, could be back on the field as early as Tuesday

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) -- Brett Favre will be reinstated and added to the Green Bay Packers' active roster Monday.

The NFL announced the move Sunday after commissioner Roger Goodell had held off on granting Favre's request for reinstatement for nearly a week, hoping Favre and the team could resolve their standoff. By reinstating Favre, Goodell is following through on a recent promise to force action.

The reinstatement will become effective at 1 p.m. EDT on Monday.

Favre's agent, James "Bus" Cook, confirmed that Favre plans to fly to Green Bay on Sunday and report to the Packers on Monday.

"That's the plan," Cook said in an e-mail to The Associated Press on Sunday.

Favre could be on the field as early as Tuesday.

Favre retired in March but has been having second thoughts. Team officials have insisted they are moving on with Aaron Rodgers, though, causing tensions to rise between Favre and the team.

It is not clear whether Favre's reinstatement indicates that he has rejected a long-term, multimillion-dollar marketing agreement offered by the team. Reinstatement could force the Packers to increase their offer to Favre in hopes that he remains retired and avoids turning their training camp into a media circus this week.

Team officials publicly have ruled out releasing Favre, fearing he would immediately sign with division rival Minnesota. The Packers could still also trade him.

The team has a scrimmage at Lambeau Field on Sunday night, then does not have another scheduled public practice until Tuesday morning.

Favre's arrival in training camp could cause a major disruption to the team, although he would not likely begin practicing with the Packers right away.

Coach Mike McCarthy has said the Packers have a plan in place should Favre report to camp. He first would have to pass a physical exam and a conditioning test, then would likely be limited to individual drills.

Goodell told the NFL Network on Saturday that he thinks the situation has lingered long enough.

"I think we have to force it," Goodell said. "I think it's come to the point where there need to be some decisions made on behalf of the Packers, on behalf of Brett, on behalf of all the fans."
