"U.S. intelligence analysts have concluded al-Qaida has rebuilt its operating capability to a level not seen since just before the Sept. 11"

"They are showing greater and greater ability to plan attacks in Europe and the United States."

And while the actual terrorist were rebuilding in pakistan with essentially no effort from the U.S. to stop it, what did this Administration do> the attacked Iraq. Now that it is absolutely obviopus that they didn't do what they needed to:

"The No. 1 enemy in Iraq is al-Qaida," White House press secretary Tony Snow said Wednesday. "Al-Qaida continues to be the chief organizer of mayhem within Iraq, the chief organization for killing innocent Iraqis."

the war on terror is necessary for expanding presidential power....

the presidents broadest adn most significant powers are based in being the Commander in Chief of the armed forces, and law enforcement...

enforcing the law is too boring maybe?

we definitely have a terror problem...

i wonder, if al-queda has a significant successful strike? will we attack Pakistan like we did Afghanistan(as we should have)?

if anybody really thinks Hillary won't ALSO try to "broaden" presidential prerogatives and power? they are sadly mistaken IMO....

That concerns me about others too. All of the republicans that are running and actually might win nomination are promising that they will. Not all the democrats, but most.

It ia time for Congress to put it foot down.

Congress is no better.
Their only complaint is the power isn't theirs.. They would do the same with it as has the current presidential moron.
The war on terror is just not working.
I hear all the time that it must be working because 9/11 hasn't been repeated...
There's only been one 9/11 because these terrorists are idiots..
The fact that we haven't been attacked again might very well have little or nothing to do with the government's new powers over us and might be completely or atleast in large part due to the terrorist's own ineptitude.
Muslim extremists do pose a threat and should be dealt with... But in a different way completely.
We need to change how we manipulate other countries.
We need to replace pretty much the entire government from the top down.
We need to change the type of morons we vote for.
Most of all we need to educate our children and get rid of this idiotic Mtv mentality that plagues our future.

I didn't say Congress is better.

And I disagree that "Their only complaint is the power isn't theirs" or that they would "do the same with it as has the current presidential moron". Many would abuse it, but lets not lower them to quite sub-moron status by likening them to The Decider. His record of non-achievement, dishonesty, crookedness, and utter incompetence long ago surpassed the worst any other two presidents could manage and, clearly, his record of damage to the republic (and to human kind) will forever be unapproached.

But beyond that clarification, there is much of your post that I find suitable to my taste. I just don't know how workable it will be.

I don't understand all this fuss about terrorism anyway.

Per year millions of people get killed in car accidents, murder/homicide, couple of hundred thousand (even more) woman and children get raped, in Afrika they eat piss and **** to survive and Americans and Europeans get hysterical for a couple of hundred people that die in a terrorist attack.

Come on.

Congress is no better.. I know you didn't say it... I did.
Bdgee.. They're all the same.. They're all players in the same twisted game.
It is a cooperative effort to gather as much power as possible.
What's going to happen is the presidencey will not relinquish those new found powers.
Sometime soon after the next election there will be an attack.. It will be after the election so as to avoid giving Bush another blemish and also as a way of stating that he was effective.
The press will go crazy and talk of how well Bush did with terrorism and how will this new moron do.
And bamm.. a tougher meaner patriot act with all the teeth that the first never had will be signed into law.
Soon we will have more cameras on the streets than any other nation.
Our every phone call will be monitored.
Search warants will be a thing of the past.
The new departments of government will outnumber the old.
It is all a game they are playing with us.
Bush fooled no one but civilians..
Hillary and all the others knew what was happening.

Soon we will have more cameras on the streets than any other nation.

it's going to be hard to beat the Crown of England, but we'll do it...

Leiberman is leading the way:

Surveillance cameras are effective weapon against terrorism
The Current-Argus
Article Launched: 07/06/2007 09:03:04 PM MDT

Sen. Joe Lieberman, an Independent from Connecticut, said earlier this week that the attempted terrorist attacks in the United Kingdom are proof that increased electronic surveillance, including cameras, is necessary.

Lieberman pointed to the extensive web of surveillance cameras in London as an example, saying that the cameras had captured clear images of a suspect in the failed London car bombings.

Of course, an immediate cry of "Big Brother is watching you" was raised.

watching Bush's press conference right now.

does Bush even realise he is admitting that he has completely failed in his war on terror?

every other excuse he makes? he mentions how powerful his enemy is, how many people are in Al-Queda? 100,000? 10,000? 5,000?

heck, they have recruited doctors that can't even light a gasoline fire without burning themselves up....

Am I the only person that thinks that had Gore had a democrat as a running mate in 2000, there would never have been any need for a question of the Florida vote.

Yes, glass...., dubya is that stupid.

He is still in office because whenever there has been a determined effort to do something about him, the republicans , at the call of the RNC, gather and march in goose steps in formation. with right arm thrust upward at a 45 degree angle to protect der fuhrer. Their loyalty is to the Party, not the nation.

There was never a need to question the Florida vote anyway.

It was right the first time.

I'll tell you why Gore lost.
The bit half way through the election year where Bush called some reporter an *******.
Combine that with Gore's body language in the first debate.
Yes Bush came off looking like a moron.. but he came off looking like a ballsy moron while gore was left looking like a pansy.
Americans and most everyone else in the world will choose balls over brains anyday.
