Greetings To All:

Were you once a hippie?

If so, do you still consider yourself a hippie?

If you have ever considered yourself a hippie, either past and/or present, feel free to share your testimonials here.

The Munchkin Man has a testimonial to offer.

The Munchkin Man is a former hippie.

The Munchkin Man used to do all the things that hippies used to do.

The Munchkin Man liked being a hippie.

The Munchkin Man had a lot of fun being a hippie.

After the Munchkin Man graduated from college, the Munchkin Man went to join a hippie farm commune located up in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia.

This was in June of 1972.

This made the Munchkin Man's Mama and Daddy very unhappy.

They tried to make the Munchkin Man get a haircut before going to this hippie commune.

They wanted the Munchkin Man to look "respectable" at the hippie commune.

The Munchkin Man refused.

This hippie commune tried to model itself after the famous Twin Oaks Farm Commune.

This meant working every day and earning leisure time for the amount of time you worked.

The Munchkin Man thought he was going to go back to nature and live happily ever after.

The Munchkin Man and all his other fellow hippies were supposed to go outside and work every day.

This meant working in the garden, pulling weeds, swing blading all kinds of brush, and chopping wood.

That's right.

The Munchkin Man had to chop wood.

That's because the hippie commune only had a wood stove.

There was no electricity in this hippie commune.

This hippie commune also had an outhouse with a hippie peace sign painted on the outside in psychedlic colors.

It was shared by all the members of the hippie commune.

The Munchkin Man's hippie commune also had no running water.

The Munchkin Man and all of his fellow hippies had to go outside and use the water pump in order to bathe.

This meant pumping cold water into a bucket until the bucket was full and dumping it all over your body while soaping yourself up at the same time.

The hippie commune also had a well for drinking water.

One time a nasty storm came up and polluted the drinking water in the well.

The well water became all full of different kinds of bugs and critters and other things that would swim.

The Munchkin Man drank some of this water.

The Munchkin Man got sick with dysentery.

It took the Munchkin Man over two weeks to get over it.

In the meantime the Munchkin Man would drive into town and buy bottled water.

Eventually the commune broke up and disbanded.

The girls who lived in the commune became jealous of the other girls and who they were sleeping with.

The Munchkin Man learned that human beings are not very "communal" by nature.

And so the Munchkin Man left the commune and came home.

But not because the commune broke up and disbanded.

But because the Munchkin Man was kicked out after the other members took a vote.

They said the Munchkin Man was lazy.

They said the Munchkin Man did not do his fair share of the work and would skirt his duties.

They were right.

The Munchkin Man found out once again that he does not like to work outside.

Working outside makes the Munchkin Man hot and sweaty.

The Munchkin Man doesn't like to get hot and sweaty.

That's the real reason why the Munchkin Man had to come home.

This made the Munchkin Man's Mama and Daddy happy again.

The Munchkin Man even got a haircut.

The Munchkin Man's Mama and Daddy became proud of their Munchkin Man again.

However, their proudest moment did not come until one day many years later.

That was the day the Munchkin Man told his Mama and Daddy that he had finally decided to become a Republican.

Best Wishes,

Munchkin Man

Excellent tale Munchkin Man. I was never a hippie. I did however consume large amounts of THC in my college years.

Good day.

The Munchkin Man used to do all the things that hippies used to do.

That explains a lot [Wink]

Hippies were artless beatniks without the determination and creativity.

It isn't so much that liberals are ignorant. It's just that they know so many things that aren't so.

If you want to visit another big hippie place, take a drive through the town of Big Sur, California...

It's like stepping into a time machine.

Quote bdgee,
Hippies were artless beatniks without the determination and creativity.

Sure seems like there were a lot of hippies that did not fit that description. Many did very well in later years. I thought that hippies were the next generation of beatniks? Have not heard that term in many years. I still remember the Dobie Gillus show with Zelda and Maynard.

Many more beatniks "did very well in later years", but we never heard of them for the news services to follow their lives and tell us. While hippies thrived and even chased news services to publicize their leanings and practices, a beatnik was most likely to respond to any hint notoriety with , "Yeak, like cool, man .... Did henry talk to microphones at Waldemn Pond?", as he wandered off into the crowd.
