Hey, where are all the bashers of global warming?
Don't you want to tell us that these guys don't know what they are talking about? Yeah, so what difference does it make that this is an official release of the formost scientific establishment in the world on the vagarities of the world's climate AND is the actual research center that our Government maintains to keep us informed about these matters so that we will not be caught unaware due to the ignorance and arrogance of political whim?
Are we to believe that the "so called experts" you like to claim are so numerous and that forever you like to remain un-named and unquoted (unpublished too?) are of equal or greater scientific stature than the actual experts that wrote this artical and placed it in the public view where it can be considered and examined and evaluated? Are you qualified to judge the work of these scholars? Or are you going to return to quotes from Fat Rush the Doper and demand we poke out heads in the sand because the RNC says to?
Come on, tell us that this is "fuzzy science" (by the way, for you without sufficient background to have reason to know, "fuzzy math" and "fuzzy science" are legitimate schollarly endevors and have nothing to do with the trash our trash mouth quasi-educated Presient appears to think it is). Show us how these guys have mis-interpreted the data?

Bdgee, the problem is these scientists want to blame only one factor.. I know you are a science buff.. no doubt you know the earth's climate fluctuates.. No doubt you know any small hiccup in the sun and our climate changes... Our magnetic field is weakening.. possibly reversing... which it has done thousands of times. I don't think anyone doubts that the smog coming out of our car's tailpipe harms the atmosphere, and alters the climate.. We are just a bit sick of being beat over the head about it. Untill someone manufactures an affordable electric car with the same performance I am accustomed to... I'll buy it.. infact I can't wait for such a car as the driving characteristics of an electric car far more suit my driving style... Untill then, what do you want me to do?

What kind of performance are you accustomed too? What are you driving an International CXT?
I thought i was bad... i bought the H2 almost 4 years ago when gas by me was only 1.60 gallon. Soon as i seen crude break 50 i sold the thing. The poor slob i sold it to is now paying 100+ bucks to fill the thing (which is every 4 days) depending how you drive

Oregon Coastal forests are changing very suttely. Ceders are dying, some that were Old Growth, but many second and 3rd growths are being affected..Spruce, Douglas fir, Hemlock are also under stress..
Our El Nino's are much more severe sence they kept keeping records..'Bout a 100 yrs data..
Cascade forests have been attacked by critters foriegn and domestic.....Desert forests at altitude are also under severe strain....
When we blasted straight thru 500 yr flood planes a few yrs back, well a few of us, said a general WTF is going on.

the real fact is that we dont have enough facts to determine what is going on
the earths temp runs in cycles...remember the ice age?? humans werent pumping **** into the atmosphere then
just sounds like the leftest environmentalists trying to push an agenda to scare people so they get their way
me? im more concerned about keeping poker legalized and protecting our second amendment rights to own a gun
What is clear is that you "don't have enough facts to determine what is going on" (or you choose to not have them or choose to ignore them, but wish to cause others to believe there are not enough facts, for purely political reasons). Don't confuse your lack of knowledge that with whether or not there are sufficient fact for a proper conclusion.

Western California is mostly the western slopes of the Rockies, so very little would be under water.
As for a preference of the two to go first, none....I think at present rates, both are certain.
We, the human race, are capable, yet, of stopping global warming before it is irreversable, but not under the political influence of the cave man mentality approach of the Republican party. It will take serious and massive effort....and honesty, which the Republican Party isn't prone to, if they even remember what that is.
Substituting their idiocy of "oil independance from the middle east" or even ethanol replacement of petroleum isn't going to accomplish didly-squat.
What is needed is an IMMEDIATE emergency effort to develop entirely new energy sources and equally determined effort to completely stop the burning of fossil fuels to supply even small parts of the world's energy needs, a very very expensive effort, but not insurmountable, if anyone gets serious about it. Everything is essentially already known and working and just needs to be implemented on large scales. (Of course, we also need to stop the mental migets that can't or won't bother to comprehend such processes and techniques from teaching their offspring and whoever else will follow them to Hell to be ignorant along with them. And for heavens sake, we need the fools that claim they are only interested if an electric car that can match the acceleration and endurance of their SUV to grow up and learn things....those cars have already been developed and put in the hands of the public! My God, don't those fools understand that a so called "Diesel locomotive" is actually an electric car?)

Bdgee yet again you are assuming mankind is the sole reason global temperatures have increased or ever will increase.. Not a wise assumption considering just how little we actually know about the reasons for global climate change..

bdgee, you would be surprised how many people no nothing about Diesel Electric....Some U.S.N War Ships are gas turbine electric drive...You tell some of um that and they glaze over..Well actually Kear-a-seen With GE Turbo fan jet engines..

Bdgee.. you just spent half a page babbling about the world having no choice but to find an alternative source of fuel.. Then you somehow revert back and suggest a diesel/electric hybrid as an answer??????? Correct me if I am wrong.. but Doesn't diesel, when burned, produce the same harmfull pollutants that gasoline does?
And when I say electric.. I mean no combustion what so ever.. We need either fuel cells or batteries that are light enough and last long enough to satisfy today's consumers.. or else they won't buy them..

Thousands of years from now a prehistoric civilization will look at the ancient ruins left behind by us and wonder/speculate what they were used for. Some will even form religions based in part on/inspired by them. Some explanations they will arrive at: the gods built them; early humans built them with the help of aliens from other star systems; devil worshipers; etc...
What will they think of the Space Needle, or the Eiffel tower, or the Statue of Liberty?

And RD...once again you show that you would rather talk about how incomprehensable the problem is rather than work with those who are trying to coprehend.
Did we not create the Twin Towers? Why yes, we did by imagining something bigger than ourselves.
Did we not learn to fly? Why yes, we did by studying the birds.
Did we not climb the highest mountain? Why yes, we did...one step at a time.
Imagine, study, and take the first step.
Talking about how big and complicated the problem is just distracts from finding purpose to start looking for an answer.
It's an excuse. Nothing more.

The thing is though, the problem IS big and complicated. It goes way beyond the technology, that's the simple part. It's changing the status quo, that's where you meet with the resistance.

Well I'm just going to say it. You ain't gonna take away my F-150 or my boat to solve global warming. But I'll give up my wife's SUV if that'll help. And I'd rather be shot than stop using my charcoal grill. I would however support banning gas grills. Food grilled on those tastes like crap anyway.

BF, I'm not saying we shouldn't try to stop using fosil fuels.. My overall point is, the new desire to somehow artificially fix global warming is niave at best.. disasterous at worst... I am all for getting rid of fossil fuels as an energy producer... That is why I suggest just how and why we will eventually make that switch.. When I say people won't buy an electric car that has a hundred horse power with a range of seventy miles.. It's not because I hate the technology.. it's because I know people won't buy them.. the cars have to closely aproximate what we drive now as far as performance... This is precisely the reason you don't see a million electric cars on the road right now. So where do we go from here? We have two choices... We make electric cars that are equal in performance to the gas guzzling cars we drive today... Or We change the transportation habits of atleast the 300 million people in this country. Now that solves the human element to global warming.. excluding of course all the coal we burn for electricity.. obviously we use nuke plants instead to correct that problem, with a smattering of solar and wind and hydro where practical. As far as the cyclical climate change of the earth what do we do about that? Nothing.. this is the part that scares me the most about this problem... We as a human race, are not too bright about these things.. I know we build fantastic sky scapers.. I know we can fling ourselves into space.. I know. But when it comes to figuring out the entirety of global climate cycles and how to Correctly alter them without causing further dammage.. I'm sorry.. we are not that good yet. That is why I bring up the fact that our pollutants are not the only reason the globe is gradually warming... because I know.. sooner or later some all-caring nimrod is going to demand we fix the climate by some irrational means.. and we will end up causing a catastrophe.

One way to increase the performance of electric cars... Bi-annual or even quarterly Electric only races.. Three hundred miles long. Winner takes a million or two or whatever amount we think might attract real competitors. No hybrids... just battery
