Hey all,

This game came to mind today. I'm sure most of you know about the game "6 Degrees of Kevin Bacon" where you try and connect actors through movies so that you could connect any movie to a movie Kevin Bacon has been in.

I'd like to change the game a bit. Who is the "Kevin Bacon" of music? For example, Johhny Cash covered songs by NIN, Depeche Mode, Bob Marley, etc. Then those people covered songs by others such as NIN remixing "In Da Club." Who would ultimately always be able to be connected to? Using people such as Richard Cheese and Wierd Al may be cheating since that is all they do is covers.

Matt

I'll go with......Kevin Bacon. He has a band called The Bacon Brothers. They've done loads of covers so without any further research, I'd say the Kevin Bacon of music is Kevin Bacon. Do I win?

music is so interconnected it would be hard to pick the "maestro"...

Jerry Garcia was everywhere for a long time...

he was even on DeJa Vu with the CSNY gang...

Well the idea is to pick someone that was such an influential artist that there have been a ton of people that covered their songs, but they never covered anyone elses. Most likely they're dead. Did Elvis Presley ever cover any songs?

And Upside, I'm not letting Kevin Bacon himself be the Kevin Bacon of music for this game. That'd be a disgrace. [Smile] Matt

Elvis was BIG into the old-timey gospel...

he was known to do "pickups" unannounced in this area where he grew up...

Elvis Costello? now he's written a ton o'stuff that other people do...

Paul and John have both been covered alot..

Carol King is another...

Joni Mitchell...

I'm not sure but did elvis ever do any originals? Probably a few early on.. "Dont be cruel"?.. But a lot of his were done by old blues artists or a spin on some gospel tune.
Brother Ray did lots of his own but also covered a few.. "Georgia" comes to mind ,Plus he did a country album..(all covers i think).. Willie Nelson also covered "georgia"..and he covered many others..The "Stardust" album was all covers..

So then we have to go further than Elvis and I get the feeling Elvis Costello probably covered a few.

I assume that if we can get back to someone during the 20's-40's then there will always be the last link between Elvis and similar others. Matt

am starting to think 'sniper is the Hasselhoff of posters...

what's the question, again? As I read it, who in the music biz is connected similarly to KB's appearances in movies... eh?

Nelson Riddle: Sinatra et al to Linda Ronstadt

Miles Davis/Bird Parker nexus? imagine the players you could connect...

How about bands & movies: Gary Busey

Ray Charles...

ya--that would be your "Kevin Bacon"

between Ray and Tom Dowd, you could connect to almost every major style of the 20th Century
