for real: got an installation going on in Dallas, about 70 machines--50 PC, 20 Mac. PC side ok with its file server; Macs ok with Mac file server...
BUT, e-mail has turned into a big ol pain...
Running Exchange Server 2003 (before the move, they were on ES 2000). Again, PCs seem to be OK...
but the Macs on OS X can't connect through Entourage 2004 (fully updated Service Packs, 11.2.1), and the OS 9 machines (mostly 9.2.2, a few at 9.2.1) CAN connect via Outlook 2001---BUT only on first try! ie, when you "remove" old profile and create a new one, you get the little 3-line logon-menu, enter the password and domain, and it finds the server and bingo, you're in and Outlook 2001 runs fine.
BUT once user logs off or reboots machine? NO DEAL--gotta "remove" and create anew...all over again.
Interestingly enough? Using the Web-based solution, OWA--if you launch that first, THEN launch Outlook 2001--la de dah, all is well...
OWA is set up with a secure socket...
Any help will greatly appreciated, if any of you mixed-environment folk got any insight...
seriously, the sysop guy on this one is no help, and the former guy (14 to 15 *thousand* machines, from which this little group spun-off) agrees w me: authentication problem, server side...I've already caught em in a coupla places where they didn't have Mac options enabled...
Now? pride as much as the dough (but I *do* wanna get paid )
cool, will check it, too; the other one? three possibilities: LDAP server, DCHP, and that error message I mentioned; but Entourage v x is too old. I already updated beyond that...
just FYI, the closest I got (most "search-terms" hit is a combo free/paid site: experts-exchange.com (worth a look if you're interested...nice "prototype" for all sorts of arcania...)
ok, gonna check your latest....thanks again
quick edit: oooo ya--this looks promising
If I can figure out why OWA "paves the way," can figure out the rest...

luv her to death, lol--but am ok she missed this one: don't need a lecture on PERL or programming...
ak-chully? among what I already had, what you turned up, and the answer I expect from my "experts" mentioned preceding--am confident it all gets resolved tomorrow...
SO...I now rest...and watch a movie with Tex, Jr. prolly gonna re-view Jurrasic 2. Watched 3 last night: "chaos theory," lol
