Another hurricane, another flight from Atlanta. But this one was different!
They boarded the plane around 11 AM, and then asked everyone to get off the plane unless you were a resident of Key West. A mandatory evacuation for visitors/tourists began at noon, and since we were scheduled to land just after 1 PM, the airline decided at the last minute not to take anyone who wasn't a resident. Since everyone on board was visiting Key West, the plane emptied out, and that just left me and The Weather Channel crew.
This was the first time that we and the flight attendants had every seen this happen, and one has been flying for 21 years. Needless to say it was a very quiet flight to Key West and we could sit anywhere we wanted.
Live coverage is underway on the Atlantic side as we wait to see where Wilma ends up. They've been through three Category 5 hurricanes this season (Dennis, Katrina and Rita), so they'd rather not have to deal with Wilma!

My brother live in Merida, Yucatan (1 hour from Cancun)
Just Spoked with him a few minutes ago, and they had more than 8 inches of rain and strong winds, his roof came off the party room. Lots of families moving to higher areas, which are rare in that part of Mexico
