The city should be moved to higher ground, only the ports should be rebuilt in my opinion. What happens if there is another hurricane in a few weeks, we're back to square one and just wasted more cash.

It will be rebuilt on the basis of votes. Will I get more support and votes by rebuilding or not. The decision will not be based on logic or dollars.

Guesss while we are at it we should relocate Key West(razed and rebuilt a few times) as well. Galveston has got to move as well(razed and rebuilt in 1900). Florida peninsula should be abandoned as well(too many storms lately). $35 billion for Andrew in '92, $19 billion for Charlie in '04, and Ivan and Frances in '04 as well(another few billion $). Guess we should really just abandon the entire Gulf Coast just to be safe, never know when another hurricane might come through.
California definitely has got to go. Earthquakes, wild fires, and mudslides. Not to mention the occasional hurricane and flood.
Who else can we add to the list?

Quake strikes north of Los Angeles Friday, September 23, 2005; Posted: 12:16 p.m. EDT (16:16 GMT) WHEELER RIDGE, California (AP) -- A magnitude 3.6 earthquake shook an area north of Los Angeles early Friday, one day after a series of quakes rumbled through the region.
There were no reports of injuries or damage from Friday's 3:21 a.m. quake, an aftershock to Thursday's temblors in the San Joaquin Valley about 70 miles northwest of Los Angeles.
The Thursday quakes began with a magnitude-3.4 jolt, which was quickly followed by a 4.7 quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey in Pasadena.
There were also several lesser aftershocks.
"We felt it pretty good, like someone picked up the store and shook it," said Donald Sullivan, an employee at the Mettler Renegade truck stop and gas station.
The quakes happened near the White Wolf fault. The last time that fault caused a major earthquake was in 1952 when an estimated magnitude-7.5 quake killed 12 people and injured 18.

Better watch out, you might get crucified for suggesting that maybe we shouldn't rebuild a city that sits below sea level....

4ART, Shouldn't you be criticizing Peaser01 for his comment like you did with Dennis Hastert, or does it not apply to him because he isn't associated with the Bush Administration and thus your 24/7 Bush bashing agenda?

Peaser01, I agree with you that it is foolish to rebuilt New Orleans until we can come up with a solution and put it into place that will protect the city from catastrophies like Katrina in the future.

Here in PA, last fall we had rems of two hurricanes go through within two weeks. People that were flooded out were elegible for FEMA help. But, they were not allowed to repair or rebuild in the same area because it was declaired a flood plain.

If those locations are below sea level as New Orleans is, then yes, relocate them too. So are they below sea level? I'm waiting.
