Since Hurricane Katrina has went further west then first predicted it will now affect many oil rigs in the Gulf. Some of the latest projections have it hitting around New Orleans as a major Hurricane. (30% chance Cat 3 40% chance Cat 4)

I also hope people will start leaving NOW if they live in the path of this storm. The forcasters have been wrong on this. It is going further west and will be a deadly huricane projected to hit Monday. This gives people less then 3 days to prepare.

If these platforms are shut down for a few days or a week.... plus it doesn't hit till monday and as long as the course is right oil price will rise.

Hurricane threatens Gulf oil production Katrina could strengthen to devastating Category 5 storm
The National Hurricane Center now expects the year's fourth hurricane to make a second landfall near the major oil and gas hub at Port Fourchon, La., sometime late Sunday or early Monday

If this one hits Port Fourchon, La. as a Cat 4 or higher it will be more destructive than Ivan was. If the Port has to be shut down because of major damage then oil will skyrocket. $70 a barrel might look cheap if this thing hits Port Fourchon.

This does not look good. 21 ft storm surge at cat 4. High tide is at approx. 10 am monday morning. People in New Orleans need our prayers. Evacuation and praying is about all these folks can do.

If the folks of New Orleans and surrounding area become complacient because of other evacuations they now deem un-necessary, this could be a tradgedy of epoch dimensions. I've noticed some people taking a causual attitude, this could be a deadly attitude to take. I noticed a comment, "giving a aspirin to cancer patient" Not much can be done...Evacuate now!

It doesn't look like they've called out the National Guard yet in Louisiana? I can't remember if they are supposed to be back from Iraq yet. I know I chatted with some of the Louisana guys in Iraq, but that was almost a year ago. Anyone know?

Wow! You mean the Bush administration may have left our own citizens unprotected in order to save Iraq from itself?

Many of Louisiana's national guard forces are now in Iraq but, the mayor said on CNN, there are 1,500 troops ready to be deployed and a few thousand that could be tapped quickly. "We are facing a storm that most of us have long feared," Nagin said at the news conference.
