I know nothing about scottrade, casper. I do have lowtrades which I have used for months and choicetrade, which I just recently got. They have about the same fees and commisions (there is curently a special deal at Lowtrades that cuts that rate in half), which seem to be about the lowest of any. I can't speak much yet about choicetrade, as I am new to it and haven't even figured out how to get a web page that allows any kind of trade or even checking on a stock.
I do have one comparison of the two brokerages to offer. Every time I have called Lowtrades, from 7 A.M. to 6 P.M. central time, a human being answered the phone and has been most helpful and interested in my situation. When I have gotten to a human at Choicetrade, they seem equally as interested aand helpful. BUT I HAVE TO GO THROUGH THE MACHBINE ANSWERING ROUTINE BEFORE I GET TO A HUMAN! The shortest time I have had getting to a human at Choicetrade is at least ten times longer than any at Lowtrades. As I say, I haven't managed to find the appropriate pagers on the internet to trade via Choicetrade, but I have traded a lot on lowtrades. It is a very easy to use system and, from what I hear about various other online brokerages, very reliable and fast.
Again, basing on what others have said, I beleive you would find either to be an improvement over Scottrade. I wish I could offer more information.

after my experience with gvrp, I'm convinced the thing to do is have at least two trading accounts. Scottie "protected" its clients by being so above-board that we have never had a chance to trade a once-in-a-gillion-blue-moons opportunity. Some Ameritrade folks have made thousands of dollars on a coupla hundred investment--but they suffered much anguish worrying about resulting e-mails-from-hel and frozen accounts, too. My biggest problem with Scottie? You often know more about the stock/market/regs than the local branch peeps do...but then others may say the same about their brokers, too
If I had the dough, I'd have separate brokers for different kinds of trades...
