I am no economic genius, so I apoligize if I am missing the big picture, but are you folks worried about the astronomical debt? How does this kind of thing get paid off? Will lower and middle class people have to pay off the debt with their social benefits?

Perhaps you should have titled this thread "Debt Worries" as your post has nothing to do with defecits.
To answer your question, no the middle class will not have to pay for the current national debt with their socialist benefits. Debt is actually a good thing when dealing with other countries. Companies from small to large all have debt with their partners. Try not to forget that most countries are also in debt to us for substantial amounts.
