The problem with their math, is that they don't acknowledge the corrupot capitalist system that has ALLOWED 5% of the country to control 95% of the wealth. Those capitalist pigs deserve to be taxed to death. Distribution of wealth = better society. Yes, their will always be rich and poor. But a more equitable distribution of wealth is better for everyone.

Wealth distribution? Worked well for the Soviets didn't it. Typical socialist view. Lets just make everyone equal that way we reward lazy people and penalize achievers.
The great thing about THIS country is that YOU determine your success--not government.
Enlightened Capitalism with Social Investment - Good.
Its not about rewarding "lazy" people. Its about acknowledging that these people didn't have the same culutral and socio-economic advantages that we did. Not all kids grow up in loving homes with broadband internet connections and trips to disney land, where parents foster, develop and encourage their growth and success in life. So you don't give the "lazy" people a blank cheque ala 1960s lefty idealistic hippy style. Instead you use taxes from those who have been succesful (mind you, money does not mean success, most of the rich inheriet it like your president) to give those who haven't (also often inherieted) a REAL CHANCE to succeed.
That means...
- after school programs, not private school vouchers.
- internet access in every home.
- children not going to school hungry.
- parents not having to work two jobs and still not being able to afford health care
Give these children all the advantages that white america has, instead of handing their parents a welfare cheque they will use to buy booze and pizza, and they will rise up and enlarge the middle class.
Thats not communist at all, its being a liberal, instead of an ignorant capitalist pig.

Just because they haven't been found, doesn't mean they never (and still don't) exist. Ask Syria where they are at.
Just as you talk about suitcase nukes, WMD's are also real. Time will tell. They will be found--either in Iraq or traced to another country. Both threats--suitcase nukes and WMD's--are real and should be taken seriously. But only by us--not you Canadians.

We'd love to share the burden of suitcase nukes and WMDs with America, along with the rest of the world. The problem is your yankee doodle president "says what he means and means what he says" (?), and does **** without regard for the rest of the world.
We went the U.N. way in 81' and left a dictator in power for another dozen years--real effective. Did it on our own and accomplished in 100 days what couldn't be done in 12+ years. The world thrives on diplomacy which is effective for those not under immediate threat--a bunch of U.N. a**kissing.
France and Germany were handed under-the-table money for oil--and you talk about Haliburton? What did those two do after we were attacked? Absolutely nothing.
Terrorists understand the effectiveness of Bush's words/actions and want him ousted. They hope any attack on our soil will produce the same effects as was the case in Spain. They don't fear Kerry. He's an inactivist who will rely on a do-nothing U.N. to accomplish his aim. We've seen the results--not pretty and not wanted again.
You say Canada would love to share the threat, but I thought you guy's freedoms weren't threatened. If 9/11 had happened in your back yard, I think you'd feel quite different.
When the threat is real, I'll take our Marines over any diplomatic action any day. Especially when the latter of the two has failed.

yeah, its true that the UN is corrupt in a lot of ways, and I wouldn't advocate America start bending to their wishes.
but pure unilaterlism is not the answer either, "the coalition of the willing" is composed of countries that are litteraly being paid to fight with America, along with a few (England,Australlia) whose leaders are doing it to appease Bush.
the fact is, the war in Iraq spread hatered a hell of a lot more then it defeated it. The war in Iraq, the way it was carried out, did not make America safer.
Had John Kerry, or even Clinton been at the helm, they would have not gone into Iraq without the unpaid approval of most if not all of your allies, especially considering the mickey mouse "intelligence" that the notion of an 'immediate threat' was based upon.
Canada would like to stand with America because our countries are fairly dependent on one another. If we closed our borders on one another, BOTH of our economies would be crippled. Whats good for one of us, is good for both of us. Its just that America's present leadership isn't too keen about thinking in terms of alliances and interdepedencies, at least not unless these alliances do exactly what America says (not very alliance like).
I'd love a John Kerry victory, where America and Canada and the rest of the world could stand as one united voice against terror in the world. Fighting the root causes of terrorism (which sometimes involve American\western foreign policy) with enlightened military power instead of cow boy diplomacy.

Helping others should be voluntary not forced. Each person is responsible for oneself. And as far as environment denying opportunity is a falacy. If you want to succeed defined by your values, nothing in life can stop you. I work hard and I already feel forced in paying taxes which alot is used to fund corruption and deceit. I should choose where my money goes. Anyways, those less fortunate should help themselves. I work for myself and my family and that is why I work hard. After that, my heart will decide how I can help others if I choose to. I have not been brought up in this so called fortunate environment, but hard work and discipline brought me a living that I am happy with. sure, i want more but I am willing to work for it and dont expect handouts as so many less fortunate want.
I do think opportunity to work should be present for all and rest is up to folks.
there are inequities but ultimately we all decide our destiny. I in life rather choose others to fish versus giving them fish.
anyways, Alot of those folks who take their kids to Disney are hardworking fols who made that possible. When my parents came to this country, they had NO money in their pockets and accepted no handout except family members provided shelter until they bought their own home 7 years later. My dad work 70 + hours so his kids could have a better life. We do and forever I am grateful but it was my dad that worked long hours so us kids would have a better life. But, we all worked hard to get there. I paid for my own college and worked 2 jobs while going to graduate school.
So while my friends were partying at 20, i was studying. I did take Friday nite off occasionally and that was the only time. So, i did all I did so I could succeed in life , values my parents gave me. So, now I can take my little ones to Disney world and live in Suburbia and I despise folks like you who say my certain kids are privilideged. Yes, my kids are fortunate but it my parents HARD labor and my own so that my kids could have a better life . Taht is what is great about America, if you work you can make but dont expect freebies becaus we all responsible for our lives. Now, I do have a heart, i help when I chosse to not because someone like you or govt focces me.

And the advantages others have may be DUE to someone working to get there. Enuff said, we have social issues in this country. Before kids can be helped, the parents need to be helped. a vicious cycle but that is what GROWTH is about. As we grow as people, we become more loving and give more to others. Welfare checks dont work, nor does socialism. Capitalism isnt perfect but I dont work hard for you. I do it for me and my kids.

Its good that you have good intentions like that. The problem is a lot of other parents that live in suburbia aren't like that. A lot of them never had exposure to that "hardworking" mentality, a lot of them are spoiled brats with no exposure to the real world. Thats where the government has to step in and *make sure* that they are teaching the poor how to fish.
My grandparents were immigrants as well, they worked hard, and translated those values to my parents. I live in a VERY rich suburban area, but my parents raised me to work for my own too. But I have friends that are on welfare, because our highschool was located "on the tracks" between suburbia and 'the ghetto'. And I swear man, these people simply do not have the same "go and get'm life is tough but lets work hard" mentality. They were never taught like we were, so they need someone to teach it to them.
A welfare cheque does not work. But taxing those who have already "made it" so that they can teach those who haven't how to "make it" is good to expand the middle class.
What I'm a big advocate of is more invisiblity of government. The amount of wasted tax money is INCREDIBLE. Canada is a great example of this. Their definetly needs to be more accountability unbehalf of the government when it comes to spending tax dollars. The amount of 'favours' and whatnot that go around with government money is ridiculous. It should go to help the people that need it, which is eventually for the betterment of all.

I do think education is key not giveouts. But in educating, who is to say my values are better? I think complex issues. It is unfortuante to see human deprivation and yes i will help where i can but my help is in bringing awareness to folks. And deprivation is an illusion.. There is plentiful for all but each has got to get there. You have to work at it ..I can not do your job. I have enuff of my own work. So, those that dont get it apparently dont get the rewards but yet will be the first to complain. No life isnt fair but you got to make the best and it boils down to values. So, those that dont value hard work, well there are consequences. I am taxed enuff and want less taxes. I rather have voluntary taxes. In a free society, there would be no taxes...folks choose what they support and how much. So, Yes each person has to help herself/himself.

I will say in a free society we choose how money is psent. That is, if i want a highway, i will pay for it. But we as people are not really free. Free means free, no coercion, no thought conditioning.

yeah, the free market is an imperfect system like any other. sometimes the government has to step in in times of market failure, or to organize people to do things like build highways.

government by the people. but I think our govt is far from by the people. Best in the world but short of perfect.

And it is interesting, what is there that will bring this country together? Another terror strike or will there still be those that are anti-american? I hope that we can move together for the sake of our children. I want my children to be able to live and have children of their own. But, I think our way of life is at stake and we as americans are yet unable to unite?

It saddens me the world we are giving to our kids. We have to fight to win and not let politics enter war or national security or we may lose. Why arent our borders secure? Posts: 864 | Registered: Jun 2004
