RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Dec. 16, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:MRKL), a defense and homeland security company transforming advanced laboratory technology into real-world products, has shipped the first 127 units of a next-generation tank weapons training system, marking the product line's evolution from development to the field deployment phase. Robert Tarini, Chairman and CEO of Markland, made the announcement.
The $1.95 million order, from EOIR Technologies Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Markland, comprised units of the company's Safety Evaluation Range Training System (SERTS). The systems provide Army weapons training instructors with audio and video feeds of targeting, firing and other activities by soldiers inside armored fighting vehicles.
EOIR's SERTS systems are being installed in M1 Abrams tanks and M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicles, two of the Army's primary fleets of armored fighting vehicles. The proprietary products are the first in-vehicle systems developed for armored military vehicles. The systems transmit video and audio of the activities inside the exercise vehicle to the range tower for exercise monitoring, recording, and instant post exercise review.
SERTS is remotely controllable from the tower to include switching four camera outputs among six camera inputs. The cameras collect real-time video and audio from inside the crew cabin, as well as video fed by the vehicles' infrared targeting systems.
"We are particularly proud to announce that our SERTS systems have progressed from the research and development phase into real-world deployment, where they can realize their value for our increasingly high-tech military. The SERTS products provide breakthrough capabilities to help the Army's battle training operators to evaluate the performance of in-tank combat drills, and to interact virtually in a highly effective manner with the student gunners," said Mr. Tarini. "Because instructors can see exactly what the trainee gunners see through the gun sights -- in addition to the multiple audio and video streams of activity inside the vehicles -- the instructors can obtain a unique, interactive understanding of the progress and actions of the student soldiers."
The first generation of SERTS is used for training, but in future the proprietary technology may also serve as a sort of black box, similar to those in airplanes. The SERTS systems can be installed to automatically record video and audio data for after-action combat analysis and improvements. The Army has deployed approximately 8,300 Abrams tanks and 6,700 Bradleys around the world, representing a significant market for SERTS.
"The SERTS product line is an example of Markland's business model of bringing cutting-edge technology to the military and homeland security industry," said Mr. Tarini. "We believe our strategy of identifying important technology will continue to make us an important provider of products and services for the military and homeland defense industries."
Markland recently announced receiving $3.2 million in new orders from the Army's most advanced technology development laboratory, the Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD). The orders came under a five-year omnibus contract with the Army that has a potential value of approximately $406 million.

Not necessarily a bad thing. MRKL looks like it has serious potential, just not enough volume to get this bad boy moving like we want.

Ironically, I wonder if that's why they redid the PR...it's almost as if no one took any notice at 6am..and you're right about volume..if alot of daytraders were to jump on right now, I imagine it would drive the price. It seems to be the norm with these runners. Daytraders literally make their own markets on a stock when it doesnt have any news...

> RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Dec. 22, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB:MRKL), a defense and homeland security company transforming advanced laboratory technology into real-world products, has announced a military-funded program to develop methods utilizing thermal signature analysis for detecting from a distance concealed weapons and bombs on the persons of terrorists, suicide bombers and other individual assailants. Robert Tarini, Chairman and CEO of Markland, made the announcement.
Markland's research into so-called "stand off" detection and warning systems - systems that can identify concealed weapons on individual attackers at distances up to 50 meters - will combine existing thermal sensors with new thermal signature-processing technology to create tools to help military and police personnel screen for would-be assailants.
"There are currently no adequate technology solutions available to homeland security and military personnel that can help them identify a suicide bomber or terrorist gunman before the attacker can get close enough to inflict real harm," said Mr. Tarini. "We believe that Markland's research may represent a leap forward in the creation of systems that can detect these attackers with a degree of success."
Markland's concealed weapons stand-off systems initiatives are based on modifications to thermal sensors that are already deployed in large numbers throughout the military. The new stand-off solutions will augment the thermal imaging capabilities of these sensors with innovative signal processing techniques that process different wavelengths of light and heat. This will enable the systems to help military and law enforcement personnel more quickly and more easily detect guns or bombs concealed on the persons of would-be attackers and terrorists.
The stand-off systems will also integrate innovative methods of analyzing human behavior, including unnatural physical movement and facial biometrics that are associated with malicious intent, such as thermal signatures, to increase the ability to identify potential terrorists or other dangerous individuals.
The Army-funded research is being conducted by Markland subsidiary EOIR Technologies. RIDGEFIELD, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2005-- Markland Technologies, Inc. (OTCBB: MRKL), a defense and homeland security company transforming advanced laboratory technology into real-world products, announced today that the U.S. Army's Night Vision and Electronic Sensors Directorate (NVESD) has awarded the Company new orders for technology products and services totaling $9.2 million. Robert Tarini, Chairman and CEO of Markland, made the announcement. The Army's NVESD research and development group is one of the U.S. military's most advanced technological leaders. Markland is working on a range of next-generation technology solutions for the NVESD, including night vision and advanced sensor applications, disposable sensors and other threat-detection systems. The $9.2 million in new orders come under a five-year omnibus contract. The sales revenues derived from these new orders will be realized over a 12-month performance period. This will bring the total dollars awarded to EOIR Technologies Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Markland, on this NVESD Omnibus contract since July 1, 2004, to approximately $36.9 million. The ongoing five year omnibus contract may provide a maximum ceiling amount of up to $80 million in fiscal year revenues for Markland. The contract has a potential value of approximately $406 million over the life of the contract. Markland's recent announcement of orders for products and services under the omnibus contract include an innovative "stand-off" threat-detection system designed to help military and security personnel identify potential suicide bombers and other armed attackers from safe distances. Other examples of recent contract awards include products and services for humanitarian de-mining activities in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as low cost disposable sensor prototypes for next generation military field intelligence applications. "I am very pleased with our continued strong revenues performance," said Mr. Tarini. "These new contract awards are a testament to the hard work and dedicated efforts of our entire staff of employees at our EOIR Technologies subsidiary. We believe strongly that our efforts will help our soldiers in combat to better and more safely perform their mission while simultaneously creating large numbers of dual technology use opportunities within the domestic Homeland Security marketplace, which can potentially accelerate our growth and contribute powerfully to shareholder value." These newly-announced NVESD orders continue to reaffirm the position of Markland's EOIR subsidiary as a leader in the development of cutting-edge technology for military and homeland security applications. Many of the products and services being delivered on this contract utilize next-generation electro-optic and infrared sensor technologies that are being used in direct support of U.S. military combat operations in Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The Army's NVESD has been responsible for numerous key innovations in the fields of optical electronics and thermal imaging for weapons targeting, electronic surveillance and other mission-critical military applications.

Revenues for the quarter were $17,044,677 a significant increase over revenues for the corresponding period in 2003 of $3,256,771. Revenues for the six months ended December 31 2004 and 2003 were $32,814,528 and $3,563,495 respectively. This increase is due almost entirely to the acquisition of EOIR Technologies Inc. Net cash provided by operating activities for the six months ended December 31, 2004 was a positive $194,896, also a significant increase over the corresponding period in 2003 in which the company experienced negative net operating cash flow of $884,314. The operating loss for the quarter amounted to $4,412,710. This loss resulted primarily from non-cash charges for the compensatory element of stock issuances, losses on disposals of equipment and amortization of intangible assets resulting from our recent acquisitions. These non-cash charges amounted to $2,905,823 for the three months ended December 31, 2004.
Net loss attributable to shareholders for the six months ended December 31, 2004 was $9,253,213 or a loss of $0.20 per share compared to a loss of $2,055,935 or a loss of $0.38 per share in the corresponding period in 2003. This decrease in the loss per share is due to an increase in the weighted average number of shares outstanding to 45,380,646 from 5,463,757. The non-cash charges included in the net loss attributable to shareholders for the six months ended December 31, 2004 amounted to $7,259,673 compared with $2,049,856 for the corresponding period in 2003.. "We have continued to demonstrate revenue growth capability and are creating scale of operations which meet our expectations and will continue to strive to grow the company and improve our financial results.
