So lately my woman has been working a lot of late shifts, and for the past couple of months she has been carpooling with a male co-worker. At first I didn't mind in case she has car trouble or something like that, but it seems they have become a little bit more than friends. You know the scenario -- the phone calls that hang up, she starts wearing nice clothes to work and talking about him all the time then abruptly stops leaving an uncomfortable silence. If im out in the garage when she gets home (usually after midnight) he just drops her off and leaves, but if the lights are off in the garage and I'm in the house (they think I'm sleeping) they sit out in the car for like twenty minutes.
I asked her once what they were doing, and she said, "Just talking" ....whatever. So last night I decided to see whats really going on out there. So I leave the garage door open, and turn off all the lights. About the time she usually gets home, I go out in the garage and wait.. In a few minutes, his car pulls into my driveway,and I'm hiding behind this mountain of saxophone cases. While waiting for whatever is happening out there to finish, I see something that I just couldn't believe! I have a broken hinge on my Tenor case!! So, is this something I could go to my regular tech to ask to fix or would I go back to the manufacturer? __________________

that pretty much depends on whether the hinge is broken at the barrel or the pin....

Of course, if you can find an inexpensive used case of the exact same type, you could replace the hinge that is broken with one from that case. Or maybe if it is as good, keep it and toss the case with the broken hinge.
Personally, as a life long Mr. Fixit, I'd probably delve into the drawers of my workbench and find some baling wire, which has been a trusted and standard repair method for over a century. If baling wire isn't available and you can get your hands on an old fashioned wire coat hanger, you can use that in a pinch.
