I am a nation that just threatened to a conventional attack against the U.S. (more specifically.....a highly populated area of YOUR state). The threat is credible....there is no reason to think I am incapable.

What do you do?

Second question:

I make the same threat; but, I am a nuclear power.....what do you do?

Both threats are conventional only.....one just has more "gas in the tank."

The real agenda of this thread is hidden. The question is only a trap for logical persons.....

Who has the fortitude to bite?

I know you said you were pushing 250 but you really shouldn't be calling yourself a nation. Self-hate is not helpful. And no I did not for a minute think you were incapable...and even if so, that's what Viagra is for. [Big Grin]

I haven't been flamed for a long time, rounder, I'm game.

First, I need to ascertain 'why' you're threatening me. Is it something that will pass on it's own? Say like the election bologna in Iran and Ahmedinijad's threat? Or is it something that is going to endure like Kim Jong Il's weapons embargo proliferation stuff?

In first case, shrug it off and keep an eye on them. In the second, begin preperation to defend yourself when it is no longer just words.

Ok, feel free to fire away. [Razz]

Thanks for playing along......keep in mind the last portion of my original post.

I promise not to drag it out to long; but, I would like to see if anymore people will bite.......that is not to say thay I profess to have the truth.......perhaps simply an interesting perspective on a topic.(at least, I hope that it is interesting).

However, suffice it to say that my aggression stems from a deep seeded belief......the type of belief that fosters anger that is not easily assuaged.

I'll bite..

In answer to your first question...

I kick your leader square in the balls (or something similar that causes serious pain)...

I then warn them that if they ever threaten me again, that I will phuck them up like a dime store watch.

Second question...

I kick your leader square in the balls...and while he is bent over from the serious pain that I have just inflicted, I shoot him in the back of the head with a large caliber projectile...(which will render them as useless as a dime store watch)

Hey Rounder,

Been tweaking my program some along with the other chores assigned to me. Keeps me out of trouble. [Smile]

In my line of work I have observed a few things.

First is this...the person who makes a scene to get something small that they don't deserve will get it more than 50% of the time. The likelihood that they will get what they want is inverse to the perceived size of the item.

Second is that responding to aggression with submission or indecision enables the aggressor.

Third is that responding to aggression with aggression will usually make the aggressor back down (especially if they are smaller than you) but one time out of ten it will escalate to conflict. In repeated interaction meeting aggression with aggression fosters hostility and makes physical confrontation more likely.

Finally I have found that if you meet aggression with a clear statement of required behavior and then firmly plant yourself in front of the aggressor it gives them no stimuli with which to further escalate off of. You may need to repeat yourself and listen to colorful language but eventually you either gain compliance or they walk away, both acceptable solutions.

This final observation is my preferred method of meeting confrontation. My intentions are clear, my eyes are focused, in the off chance that my opposition is willing to physically engage without stimulation my feet are set and my body is ready to counter, and anyone who may be observing will easily see that my actions were defensive and reactionary, not provocative.

All words are wind unless they are followed by action.

Retiredat...You cannot possibly be quick enough to physically stop a man from pushing a button that triggers the missile that blows up
quote:
a highly populated area of YOUR state
.

You can only do one of three things.

1) Call his bluff (in which case he wasn't going to push the button anyway and was safe to ignore.)
2) Move before he pushes the button (even though he had already planned to push the button.) It will not stop the attack but it will muddy the waters of who was the provocateur of the situation giving your rival the chance to slip off the hook of responsibility.
3) Move before he pushes the button and scare him into pushing it even though that was not what he intended to do.

Preemptive movement gains little and less. We have a prime example sitting in front of us in the form of the nation of Iraq. What remains to be seen is if we will learn from this example or not.

Pretty simple.

Send a little more of our money to China, let say 3 billion, to take care of the problem.

They inturn will send 1 billion to the South Koreans to take care of the problem, who inturn will send a million to a small team of North Korean special forces to take care of the problem and take him out.

Of couse we already pay this team 1 million to do our military intelligence in North Korea.
